Common questions about quiet hours and our site

General Questions

What are quiet hours?

Quiet hours are designated times when shops and other public spaces reduce sensory stimuli like bright lights, loud music, and sudden noises. This creates a calmer environment that's more accessible and comfortable for people with sensory sensitivities, autism, anxiety, or other conditions.

Are quiet hours guaranteed?

While stores make their best effort to maintain quiet hours, there might be occasions when they need to be adjusted or cancelled. We recommend checking with individual stores for the most up-to-date information.

Are quiet hours the same in every store?

Not necessarily. Different stores may have quiet hours on different days or at different times, and the specific adjustments they make can vary. Use this website for the specific times of different locations, or contact the store locations directly for specific details.

How can I find out if a store near me has quiet hours?

You can use this website to search for stores and locations offering quiet hours! Many stores also list their quiet hours on their websites or in-store signage.

Can I still shop during quiet hours if I don't have a specific need for them?

Yes, most stores welcome everyone during quiet hours. However, it's important to be mindful of the purpose of these hours and to respect the needs of those who benefit from a calmer environment. Try to keep noise to a minimum, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid any behaviour that might disrupt the peaceful atmosphere.

What changes are typically made during quiet hours?

Stores often dim the lights, turn off music and announcements, reduce the volume of beeps and other electronic noises, and may even limit trolley movements. Some stores also provide staff training to better assist customers during quiet hours.

Will there be any limitations on services during quiet hours?

It is reasonable to expect a full range of services during quiet hours. Any limitations should be listed on each store's website, see under sources.

How can I be respectful of others during quiet hours?

Being mindful of your noise level and personal space is key. Try to keep conversations quiet, avoid strong scents, and be considerate of others who may be more sensitive to their surroundings.

How can I suggest a store to add quiet hours?

It is a great idea to do so, however you need to contact the store directly. You can also suggest they list their quiet hours on this website to reach a wider audience.
